ROJAS QUALIFIES SEVENTH AT HOMESTEADWith temperatures topping 90 degrees, practice laps varied by as much as three seconds a lap from the beginning of a tire cycle to its completion. Only the Ganassi team did a complete 50-lap run in practice on its Pirelli tires in preparation for Saturday’s race.
“It’s going to be a very tough race,” said Rojas. “We worked a lot on our race set-ups, but I’m not sure anyone really knows what’s going to happen tomorrow.”
Rojas’ co-driver Scott Pruett concurred as the duo heads into the season finale in third-place, 10 points behind the leader.
“I think tomorrow’s race could be a wild one,” said Pruett. “Obviously, we’re going to need some help to win a championship, so all we can do is focus on winning the race and letting everything else fall as it may. It’s been one of those seasons where things just seem to happen, though, and with the tire wear situation as it is, who knows what will happen. I think you’ll see a lot of different strategies from different teams and there are a number of teams that have nothing to lose tomorrow and they could be the wild-card here.”
Tomorrow’s two-and-a-half hour race will be shown live on SPEED with coverage beginning at 1 p.m.
