Lexus Utah PreviewUPFRONT - After qualifying sixth at the season-opening Rolex 24 at Daytona, the #01 Telmex Lexus has now qualified on the front row in each of the last nine races. Over that span, the team has accumulated four pole positions and five second-place qualifying efforts.
In addition to qualifying upfront, the #01 Lexus has led more laps than any other team in the series with 406 -- 123 more than the second-highest total. Individually, Scott Pruett leads the series with 191 laps led and Memo Rojas is second with 162.
LAST RACE – After qualifying second on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas found themselves chasing changing weather conditions more than their on-track opponents on race day on the way to a disappointing 10th-place finish in the Montreal 200.
LEXUS AT MILLER – The Grand-Am races at Miller Motorsports have been, at the minimum, eventful for Lexus since the series debuted at the Utah track in 2006. The Lexus-powered Michael Shank Racing duo of Oswaldo Negri and Mark Patterson won the inaugural nine-hour event at the track to clinch the Manufacturer’s Championship for Lexus.
The following season, Scott Pruett was on the verge of a victory and clinching the series championship before being punted off track in the waning stages of the race in what was likely the most controversial event in Daytona Prototype history.
A year ago, needing just to complete the series mandated 30-minute minimum to score points, Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas turned in a workman-like effort to place ninth in their #01 Telmex Lexus and win the Rolex Sports Car Series championship last September.
IN THE RECORD BOOKS – The Chip Ganassi Racing Lexus team enters into this weekend’s race as the winningest team in Rolex Sports Car Series history with 23 victories. Lead driver Scott Pruett has won more races than any driver in Rolex history with 22, while also holding the record for most podium finishes with 45. Despite its relatively late entry into the series in 2004, Lexus is second among manufacturers in all-time wins with 25.
