ROJAS PUTS LEXUS ON POLE AT DAYTONA

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 4, 2009) – Memo Rojas captured the pole position for Saturday’s Brumos 250 at Daytona International Speedway to give Lexus its fourth pole of the season in Grand-American Rolex Sports Car Series competition.

In addition to the four pole positions, the #01 Telmex Lexus has now qualified on the front row for each of the past six races since the season-opening Rolex 24.

Joining Rojas and co-driver Scott Pruett in today’s field are SPRINT Cup drivers Kyle Busch and Scott Speed in a second Chip Ganassi Racing Lexus. Despite just one previous test session, Busch improved throughout the morning qualifying session to an eventual 11th-place starting position.

Today’s race is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., prior to the evening’s NASCAR SPRINT Cup event.

Notes:

  • Today’s pole position is the 28th for Lexus in Daytona Prototype competition.
  • The Lexus-powered Ganassi team has been on the front row in each of the last six races.
  • Lexus will be looking for its 26th win in the series since 2004 today and its third consecutive victory after winning the previous two races at Watkins Glen and Mid-Ohio.
  • The Lexus-powered Ganassi #01 will be attempting to win its second consecutive Brumos 250 at Daytona today. Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas combined for what would be the closest victory in series history a year ago when Pruett passed Alex Gurney coming off the last turn a year ago.

Lexus Starting Positions:
#01 Rojas/Pruett 1st
#02 Busch/Speed 11th

Memo Rojas: “I’m happy with our lap time. It’s always good to be on the pole and we’re really pleased to be able to keep our streak of front row starts (now six) going. We weren’t happy with our set-up in practice, so we gambled a little in qualifying and, obviously, it paid off.”
