PRUETT, ROJAS TAKE RUNNER-UP HONORS AT LAGUNA ROLEX

MONTEREY, Calif. (May 17, 2009) – Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas combined to lead 65 laps on the way to a second-place finish today in the Rolex Sports Car Series’ Verizon Festival of Speed at Laguna Seca Raceway in temperatures nearing 90 degrees in the northern California sun.

The #01 Telmex Lexus dominated much of the action, but a late-race full-course caution bunched the field together, eliminating the team’s nine-second lead. Shortly after the re-start, Pruett was bogged down in traffic and it slowed him just enough that Jon Fogarty was able to squeeze by for the eventual victory.

The second-place finish matches the team’s best showing of the year at Daytona in the Rolex 24. With the strong showing, the team moves up to fourth in the championship race, just 14 points out of the championship lead.

The Rolex Sports Car Series returns Saturday, June 6 for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen in a race that will be televised live on SPEED beginning at 2 p.m. EDT.

Notes:

- With the second-place finish today, Scott Pruett extends his Rolex Series record total for podium finishes to 42.

- In leading 65 laps in today’s race, the #01 Lexus has now led each of the four races this season – one of only three teams to accomplish that feat.

- With a second-place finish today, Lexus has now registered five top-three finishes in five Rolex Series races at Laguna Seca with a win, two seconds and two thirds. In addition, the Ganassi Lexus team has now recorded five top-10 finishes in their five events here with a first (2005), a second (2007) and tenth (2006), as well as today’s second-place.

Today’s second-place snaps a bad luck streak that saw the Lexus-powered Ganassi team finish outside of the top-five in the last two races, with a DNF at Virginia after being punted late and a ninth-place finish at New Jersey due to a malfunctioning windshield wiper.

Quotes:

Memo Rojas, #01 Telmex Lexus: “The car was really good today. We had a really good set-up that allowed us to compensate wherever we needed to make adjustments. It’s amazing how far we came from Friday to today. We were running every lap like it was a qualifying lap. We never really let up, we just kept pushing. It was hot out there and we didn’t have any yellow after my last stop, so we ended up going a full tank of gas without a yellow (Rojas ran a total of 61 laps). I really increased my fitness program this off-season and I think it really paid off today. I don’t think we had any real drop-off performance-wise.”

Scott Pruett, #01 Telmex Lexus: “Traffic just didn’t work our way today, but you have to give the #99 team a lot of credit. Hopefully, we’ve helped turn our momentum around and now that we’re back running up front, we just need to stay here. The whole Ganassi team and everyone involved with it did a great job. Everybody did what they needed to today and now we can start working toward the championship.”
