ROJAS PUTS LEXUS ON POLE AT LAGUNA

MONTEREY, Calif. (May 16, 2009) – For the second time in three races, Memo Rojas put his #01 Telmex Lexus on the pole for Sunday’s Grand-American Rolex Sports Car Series Verizon Festival of Speed at Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, Calif.

With the pole, Rojas becomes the first driver to win two pole positions this season after capturing the top spot in his only other qualifying attempt at the Virginia International Raceway two races ago. The third-year driver moved into the top spot early in the qualifying session and never relinquished it after his second lap, registering each of the four fastest laps of the 15-minute qualifying run.

Rojas will co-drive with Scott Pruett on Pruett’s “home track” on Sunday. Temperatures for Sunday’s race are expected to climb close to 90 degrees.

Sunday’s green flag is scheduled to drop at 4:00 p.m. EDT, with SPEED live coverage.

Notes:

- Today’s pole is the second of the season for Lexus and the manufacturer’s 26th pole position in Rolex Sports Car Series competition since entering the series in 2004. It’s the third career pole for Rojas and the 25th for Chip Ganassi Racing.

- With the top spot in qualifying today, the Lexus-powered Ganassi team has been on the front row in each of the last three races.

- Lexus will be looking for its 24th win in the series since 2004 on Sunday and its’ second at Laguna Seca.

Lexus Starting Positions:
#01 Rojas/Pruett 1st

Memo Rojas: “I really have to congratulate the whole Ganassi team. We struggled yesterday, in part due to the colder weather. We weren’t really sure where we were headed. We had a long debrief after yesterday’s practice and made some really big adjustments and it paid off today. We know we have a good car for tomorrow. Now we need to keep it on the track and stay out of trouble. We need to start making up some ground in the championship race after some bad luck the past couple of races.”

Scott Pruett: “Memo did a great job again today and it’s a huge plus to start upfront here. The biggest challenge for tomorrow will be continuing to adjust along with the weather. It was in the upper 50s yesterday (Friday) and it’s at least 20 degrees warmer today and it’s supposed to be even warmer tomorrow. We’re going to need to address the affects and adjust accordingly.”
