ABC daytime drama “One Life to Live” star Tika Sumpter is no stranger to fast-paced plotlines. But as she speeds through the streets of Long Beach, Calif., the crowd will see how she handles the quick twists and turns of the 2010 Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race.

Originally a model known for a subtle beauty that earned her countless magazine covers, Sumpter has deftly made the crossover to acting, with roles in the film “Brooklyn’s Finest” with Don Cheadle and Richard Gere, as well as in the upcoming “Salt,” which stars Angelina Jolie. She recently wrapped production on “Whisper Me a Lullaby.” Sumpter’s first starring role is in “Stomp the Yard 2: Homecoming,” in which she’s cast as the female lead. That movie is currently filming.

In addition, Sumpter’s voice has earned the actress accolades, both for her work as a voice-over artist in numerous TV and radio spots, and as a performing artist who has co-written and sung a variety of pop songs. Among them is a track called “Paint the World, America’s Anthem” on the independent compilation CD “One Life, Many Voices,” which benefits victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Highlights:

  • Co-hosted an original show for the MTV-owned N Network called “Best Friend’s Date”

  • Nominated for NAACP Image Award as Best Actress in a Daytime Series in 2008

  • Currently co-writing songs for a pop/rock album with Chris Pelcer
