Biography

Kody Swanson began racing in Junior Sprints in 2000, and by 2002, he was racing against adults—and winning titles—all before graduating from the eighth grade. A quick learner, and two-time valedictorian, Swanson hopes to outsmart his fellow drivers on the Pro/Celebrity track.

Swanson began competing in the United States Auto Club (USAC) in Western Sprint cars in 2004, and ran his first season with the series in 2005, winning the championship and title Rookie of the Year. In 2006, he began racing USAC Midgets, setting the pole of the Turkey Night Grand Prix. He came in second in the race and received Rookie of the Race honors.

In 2007, Swanson transitioned to the USAC National series, competing in select events for Steve Lewis’ Nine Racing Team, and in 2008, he won his first career USAC National Midget feature. He joined Team 6R in 2008 to race in the Silver Crown series and won his first career USAC Silver Crown Feature event at DuQuoin, Illinois’ “Ted Horn 100” in 2010. He ended the 2010 season with a “Turkey Night” track record in the National Midgets and a feature victory in the USAC Sprint Cars.

Swanson attended Smittcamp Family Honors College at California State University, Fresno, from which he graduated with an honors degree in agriculture economics.

Highlights:

  • He and his brother were the first brothers in history to “sweep” a USAC Silver Crown feature event, finishing first and second, Aug. 12, at Berlin Raceway (Mich.)

  • Set a “Turkey Night” track record in the National Midgets in 2010
