Keanu Reeves once kept audiences on the edge of their seats in “Speed.” Sixteen years—and one Toyota Celebrity/Pro Race championship title—later, will he do the same as he reprises his role in Long Beach this year?

Reeves is widely considered to be one of the most talented and widely sought-after leading men in Hollywood. Among his many movie credits, he has recently starred in Rebecca Miller’s “The Private Lives of Pippa Lee” with Robin Wright and “The Day the Earth Stood Still” with Jennifer Connelly.

But beyond acting, Reeves has also recently wrapped production on “Henry’s Crime,” a film in which he stars but which also marks his debut as a producer. Before that film, Reeves led a spate of critically praised successes, including “Street Kings” with Forest Whitaker, “The Lake House” alongside Sandra Bullock, and Richard Linklater’s “A Scanner Darkly” with Robert Downey Jr.

Reeves also starred in all three movies of the massively successful “Matrix” trilogy, playing the lead character, Neo, in the film series that blazed new trails in cinema.

The actor has proved that he still feels comfortable in the lead: He stepped out of the limelight and behind the wheel of a race car in 2009 and won the celebrity category of the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race.

Highlights:

  • Started in local theater productions in his native Toronto before making the switch to the silver screen

  • Motorcycle aficionado who’s more often seen riding on two wheels than on four

  • Has starred alongside Hollywood’s top leading men and women, including Denzel Washington, Rachel Weisz, Glenn Close and John Malkovich
