As one of the most recognized names in all of open-wheel racing, Jimmy Vasser is determined to bolt through the streets of Long Beach in a Scion tC, leaving behind a lasting impression on the participants at the 2010 Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race.

A success both on the racetrack and in the business world, the 1996 IndyCar World Series champion joined KV Racing Technology in the dual roles of owner and driver in 2004. Vasser, a California native who drove Champ Cars for 14 seasons plus one race in 2006 and one in 2008 (both at Long Beach), bears some of the finest credentials in U.S. open-wheel-racing history.

Vasser stands among the leaders in most of the career statistical records. He was a perennial championship contender, having placed in the top 10 in the driver point standings in nine of his last 11 seasons (concluding in 2005). He is also one of just eight drivers to earn more than $11 million in series competition.

Off the track, Vasser is the owner of a vineyard in Napa, Calif.; three auto dealerships, including a Toyota dealership, also in Napa; and various real estate properties in North America.

Highlights:

  • Was runner-up in 1998 and placed third in the standings in 1997

  • Started 238 races and holds the record for consecutive starts with 211

  • Was running at the end of 149 of his last 194 starts (dating to Milwaukee in 1995) and finished in the top 10 in 136 of his 238 starts
