Muniz first drove in the Toyota Pro/Celebrity race in 2004, then after his win in 2005, made the decision to put his acting career on hold to pursue a career as a professional racer. This is his fourth time competing in this event.
Besides his role in “Malcolm in the Middle,” for which he received Emmy and Golden Globe nominations, Muniz has also appeared in such films as “My Dog Skip,” “Agent Cody Banks,” “Big Fat Liar” and “Stay Alive.” He will next be seen on screen in the superhero comedy “Pizza Man,” not yet released.
As a racer, Muniz competed in the Formula BMW USA Championship in 2006, and then in the Atlantic Championship for Jensen Motorsport in 2007. In 2008, he signed with Pacific Coast Motorsports and finished the season in 11th place overall. Muniz won the Jovy Marcelo Sportsmanship Award, an honor determined by fellow drivers. In 2009, Muniz drove the Team Stargate Worlds Atlantic car, finishing in the top 10 in every race in which he competed.
Muniz is currently drummer for Phoenix-based pop-rock group You Hang Up. Their first full-length album, due out in 2011, was produced by Joe Fitz, whose credits include B.o.B’s Grammy-nominated “The Adventures of Bobby Ray.”
