Voted “The All-Time Greatest Action Sports Athlete Ever” and 2004 Thrasher Magazine’s Skater-of-the-Year, Way is one of the most respected athletes by core fans and fellow professionals alike. Way is also the only person to have ever skateboarded over the Great Wall of China, (and he did it with a broken ankle), in front of 100 million viewers. In addition, he is a multiple world-record holder and a multiple X Games Gold Medalist.
Since 2004, Way and ESPN have partnered to present the MegaRamp Big Air contest at the X Games. The live TV event evolved into the X Games most successful attraction and kicks off the live broadcast. While still actively competing in 2008, Way replaced Tony Hawk as the X Games’ main skate athlete commentator. In addition to this year marking Way’s 20th year as a professional athlete, a documentary film telling the story of his life is currently in production.
Highlights:
• The only person to have jumped out of a helicopter on a skateboard.
• Battled 45mph winds and established a new land speed record on a skateboard of 74.5 mph (November 2008).
