An eight-time NHRA top fuel championship crew chief, Alan Johnson has emerged as one of the most innovative and successful crew chiefs in NHRA Top Fuel racing. The 2009 season was the first in Alan Johnson’s second stint as an NHRA team owner. Johnson remained a dominating force in NHRA racing as the Al-Anabi Top Fuel and Funny Car teams both made the NHRA Countdown to 1 Playoffs and combined for eight wins in 12 final-round appearances. Johnson owns Alan Johnson Racing and manages the Alan Johnson Racing portion of the Al-Anabi Racing Team, owned by His Highness Sheikh Khalid Bin Hamad Al Thani, who has set a goal of promoting the domestic and international awareness of motorsports in the nation of Qatar. In the team’s first season, they came within two points of winning the Top Fuel championship with driver Larry Dixon, while placing seventh in Funny Car competition with Del Worsham. Dixon earned five wins in the team’s debut season with Worsham capturing three victories. Including his sportsman-level successes with his late brother Blaine Johnson, Johnson has amassed 12 championships in his career, four in Top Alcohol and eight more in Top Fuel. Additionally, Johnson has tuned his drivers to eight national records over the years, including six elapsed time and two top speed marks. Johnson tuned Tony Schumacher to five consecutive Top Fuel titles from 2004 through 2008.
