DIXON QUALIFIES SECOND IN SEATTLE TOP FUEL; WORSHAM, CRUZ PEDREGON RUN 2-3 IN FUNNY CAR

TORRANCE, Calif. (July 10, 2010) – Larry Dixon led both Saturday sessions, but fell just short of Friday night’s fast qualifying time to qualify second in Top Fuel, while his Al-Anabi Racing teammate Del Worsham placed second in Funny Car, one spot ahead of fellow Toyota Camry Solara driver Cruz Pedregon in preparation for Sunday’s NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series’ Northwest Nationals at Pacific Raceways in Kent, Wash.

With the second this weekend, Dixon has now qualified in the top-three in 13 of 14 events this season and it marks the eighth time he’s been in the top-two. In addition, by leading two more sessions this weekend, Dixon has now been quickest in 14 of the last 23 Top Fuel qualifying sessions.

Worsham and Pedregon provided the top overall qualifying effort of the season for Toyota in Funny Car competition with their second- and third-place showings. Worsham was second-quick in each of Saturday’s qualifying sessions while Pedregon topped the final qualifying session to jump into third-place.

Worsham looks to continue a run that has witnessed him advancing to one final and two semi-finals in the last three races. The third in qualifying is Pedregon’s second time qualifying in the top three in the last three races, but is somewhat bitter-sweet as he’ll line up against his brother, Tony Pedregon, in the first-round of Sunday’s eliminations.

It was a strong qualifying effort overall for the Toyota contingent as each of the four Toyota-sponsored Top Fuelers placed in the top half of the field. In addition to Dixon’s second, Antron Brown was fifth, Shawn Langdon seventh and Morgan Lucas placed eighth – giving each lane choice for tomorrow’s first-round of eliminations. By qualifying for tomorrow’s Northwest Nationals, Brown officially clinched his spot in the Countdown to the Championship playoffs.

Sunday’s ESPN2 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series coverage begins with NHRA RaceDay at 11:00 a.m. EDT, followed with coverage of eliminations live on ESPN3 (ESPN 360) running from 11:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. EDT on ESPN2 and from 7-9 p.m. on ESPN3 (ESPN 360).
