Toyota NHRA Bristol PreviewDIXON EXPRESS HEADS TO BRISTOL – The Larry Dixon Express rolls into Bristol this week looking for his seventh victory and his sixth in the last eight races. After earning consecutive wins at Chicago and Englishtown the past two weeks, Dixon has now registered a 24-2 elimination round record over the past seven races. In addition, he’s reached the semi-finals or finals in seven consecutive races. He will take a 199-point lead to Bristol.
As strong as Dixon’s performance has been in the eliminations runs, he has been just as impressive in qualifying. After leading two more sessions this past weekend, he has now run the fastest time in 10 of the last 15 Top Fuel qualifying sessions over the past four races.
LAST YEAR AT BRISTOL - Del Worsham drove his Toyota Camry Solara to victory over Tony Pedregon in the finals of last year’s Funny Car event at the Bristol Dragway. The victory was the first for Worsham with Al-Anabi Racing. One of Worsham’s victories came over fellow Camry Solara driver Cruz Pedregon. In Top Fuel, Shawn Langdon was the top Toyota driver, progressing to the semi-finals before falling to Doug Kalitta. Each of the other three Toyota-sponsored Top Fuelers fell in the second round.
COUNTDOWN TO THE COUNTDOWN – Larry Dixon became the first driver to clinch a spot in the NHRA Countdown to the Championship with his victory this past weekend, but he’s not the only Toyota-sponsored driver on pace to reach the Countdown - all four Toyota Top Fuelers would qualify if the season were to end today. Antron Brown is currently in fifth place with a sizeable 340-point margin between himself and David Grubnic, who’s currently the first driver out of the Countdown with six races remaining. Morgan Lucas (seventh) and Shawn Langdon (eighth) also hold a comfortable advantage over Grubnic with Lucas up by 122 points and Langdon by 114.
