DIXON CONTINUES QUALIFYING DOMINANCE; TAKES CHICAGOLAND POLE

JOLIET, Ill. (June 5, 2010) – Larry Dixon set a new track record with a 3.814-second run on Friday night to capture his third pole position of the season in qualifying for Sunday’s NHRA Route 66 Nationals at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Ill.

Dixon previously captured the top spot at Houston and Atlanta, where he went on to victory at each event. With the fastest time in the first of two Saturday sessions as well, he now has been the fastest qualifier in eight of the last 11 Top Fuel qualifying runs and led at least one session at eight of 10 races this season. This weekend’s showing also marks the ninth time in 10 races that he’s qualified in the top-three.

“As it’s been most of the season, the Friday night session was the one where you had to fire your shot to get on the pole,” said Dixon. “With only one session on Friday, we wanted to make a good run and we were fortunate to put it on pole. It was a little warmer today, but we were able to come out and be the quickest in that first session. All in all, a great job by the Al-Anabi Racing team.”

Toyota-sponsored drivers have now captured the top spot in qualifying six times in the season’s first 10 races including four of the last five. In addition to Dixon’s three poles, Antron Brown recorded fast time at Gainesville, Las Vegas and Topeka.

Shawn Langdon registered another strong qualifying effort. After placing fourth last week in Topeka, Langdon placed seventh today and will have lane choice in the first elimination round tomorrow. Brown ran the third-quickest time of the final session to also secure lane choice for tomorrow in the eighth position. Morgan Lucas rounded out the Toyota Top Fuelers in 15th.

In Funny Car action, Cruz Pedregon turned in his fastest run of the season with a blistering 4.149-second pass to go from being just outside of the field all the way up to fifth in his Toyota Camry Solara. Pedregon also received one bonus point for having the third-fastest pass of the session. Del Worsham also used his final run to bump into the field into the 10th position.

Sunday’s ESPN2 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series coverage begins with NHRA RaceDay at 10 a.m. EDT, followed with coverage of eliminations running from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. EDT.
