DIXON LEADS THE WAY FOR TOYOTA AT TOPEKA

TORRANCE, Calif. (May 23, 2010) – Larry Dixon advanced to his seventh semi-final of the year to lead the Toyota-sponsored drivers at the O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Summer Nationals at Heartland Park Topeka on Sunday.

Dixon had qualified ninth and then defeated David Grubnic before squaring off with fellow Toyota driver and top qualifier Antron Brown in the second round. The much anticipated match-up wasn’t to be, though, as Brown red-lighted and Dixon advanced to the semi-final where he lost a side-by-side duel to Tony Schumacher. It was the fifth semi-final appearance in a row for Dixon, with three wins included.

Fellow Toyota-sponsored Top Fuel driver Shawn Langdon also had a strong weekend. After matching his season-best fourth in qualifying, Langdon won his first-round match-up and then fell in a close race with Schumacher in the second round. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as well for his teammate Morgan Lucas, who qualified 10th and was eliminated in round one.

In Funny Car competition, Del Worsham defeated Ashley Force-Hood in the first round before falling in the second round to fast qualifier Robert Hight. Cruz Pedregon was defeated by Robert Capps in the first round.

The NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series is off next week before resuming action at Route 66 Speedway in Joliet, Ill., for the Route 66 Nationals, June 4-6.

Quotes:

Morgan Lucas, GEICO Powersports/Lucas Oil Toyota Top Fuel Dragster: "We took a couple of steps back this weekend. I don't know if we underestimated the track or what happened."

Shawn Langdon, Lucas Oil/Speedco Toyota Top Fuel Dragster: “We turned our program around this weekend. We've been pretty far behind the last couple of races, and now were running within a couple of hundredths of the fast guys. In the first round we hurt our good blower. We had to put our backup blower on for the second round. You test all these blowers on the dyno in the shop. When you get to the track you always second-guess if they are really as close as they are at the shop. In hindsight, we probably didn't have enough motor."
