BROWN ON POLE; TOYOTA DRIVERS LEAD EVERY TOP FUEL QUALIFYING RUN

TORRANCE, Calif. (May 22, 2010) – Antron Brown used a blistering 3.785-second Friday night run to secure his third pole position of the year for Sunday’s O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Summer Nationals at Heartland Park Topeka.

Brown ran the fastest time in each of Friday’s two qualifying passes in his Matco Tools/Toyota Top Fuel dragster to secure six bonus points and to give him a series’ high three top-qualifying positions after previously earning the number one spot at Gainesville and Las Vegas.

The strong showing by Toyota-sponsored drivers didn’t end with Brown’s Friday night runs, though, as Al-Anabi Racing/Toyota Top Fueler Larry Dixon registered the fastest pass in both Saturday qualifying sessions, giving Toyota drivers a sweep of the four runs. Dixon also gained six bonus points in the process and extended his series points lead to 118 heading into tomorrow’s eliminations. Ironically, despite running the fastest time in both sessions Saturday, the rising temperatures kept him from climbing above ninth overall.

In sweeping all four qualifying sessions last week at Atlanta, Dixon has now had the fastest pass in six of the last eight runs.

Toyota-sponsored drivers have now captured the top spot in qualifying five times in the season’s first nine races with Dixon joining Brown’s three pole positions with fast times at Atlanta and Houston.

After struggling the past two weeks, Shawn Langdon bounced back with a fourth in qualifying – matching his season’s best in the Lucas Oil/Toyota Top Fuel dragster. Impressively, he registered the fourth-fastest time in the cool Friday night weather and the second-fastest time in Saturday’s 86-degree temperatures. His teammate, Morgan Lucas, qualified ninth in his Geico/Toyota Top Fueler.

Dixon’s Al-Anabi Racing teammate Del Worsham placed ninth as the top Toyota in Funny Car qualifying, while Cruz Pedregon placed 12th in his Snap-On Tools Toyota Camry Solara.

Sunday’s ESPN2 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series coverage begins with NHRA RaceDay at 10 a.m. EDT, followed with coverage of eliminations running from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. EDT.
