BUSCH TALLIES TUNDRA TRIUMPH AT CHARLOTTE - First Truck Series Win for Toyota at the Track

CONCORD, N.C. (May 21, 2010) -- Kyle Busch was victorious in Friday night’s rain-delayed NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) race at Charlotte Motor Speedway (CMS), overcoming early contact with the wall to lead a race-high 69 of 134 laps en route to victory lane.

Busch started on the pole in the No. 18 Z-Line Designs Tundra and pulled away at the drop of the green flag on the 1.5-mile North Carolina oval. The 25-year-old Las Vegas native battled a loose truck in the early going, brushing the outside wall and causing damage to the right side of his truck.

The Kyle Busch Motorsports crew worked to repair the damage during a mid-race pit stop, and Busch worked his way back through the field to take the lead again on lap 118. He survived a pair of late-race restarts to cross the finish line 0.228 seconds ahead of fellow Toyota driver Todd Bodine.

“This team did a great job in preparing a great truck to come out here with. Unfortunately, I tried to screw it up,” said Busch, following the race. “I guess the driver owes the owner a little bit of money tonight. We weren’t the best truck here tonight, but I think we were really good and when you’re really good you can work your way through the traffic.”

It is Busch’s 18th career NCWTS victory (12 in a Tundra) and the fourth win for Toyota in 2010. With the victory at CMS, Toyota has now won an NCWTS event at every track it has competed on since joining the series in 2004.

Bodine finished second to match his best result (Daytona) of the 2010 season. The 2006 NCWTS champion led five laps and now has six top-five finishes in seven races.

“Tonight we ran with the leaders where we haven’t been able to really do that all season,” said Bodine, following the race. “We could finish third or fourth, but we just couldn’t get up there to race them and tonight we did and that was a big step in the right direction for our team.”

Mike Skinner (sixth), Aric Almirola (seventh), David Starr (ninth) and Timothy Peters (10th) also posted top-10 finishes at Charlotte for Toyota. It is the best result of the season for Skinner. Toyota drivers Tayler Malsam (13th), Justin Lofton (15th), Nelson Piquet Jr. (16th) and Brad Sweet (21st) were also in the field.

The race was delayed nearly three hours as persistent rain pushed back the original start time.

With the runner-up finish, Bodine jumped to the top of the unofficial NCWTS point standings following Charlotte, now holding a two-point lead over Almirola. Tundra drivers Peters (third), Skinner (eighth) and Starr (10th) are also in the top-10 in points after seven of 25 races.

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series returns to action at Texas Motor Speedway, June 4.
