BUSCH TAKES TUNDRA TRIUMPH AT TALLADEGA - Toyota Sweeps Top-Five to Clinch Manufacturer’s CrownBusch was running second behind Bodine coming out of turn four on the final lap, but Busch stormed by with teammate Aric Almirola in toe to the checkered flag, leading a one-two finish for Billy Ballew Motorsports.
“I owe everything to Aric Almirola today for sticking with me from that last pit stop to the end,” said Busch, following the race. “What an awesome truck. This Miccosukee Tundra was great today. The guys did an awesome job building it. You can only go as fast as what it’s built from the shop so obviously a lot of work went into this thing.”
Busch led twice for 10 (of 98) laps around the 2.66-mile Alabama oval in the No. 51 Miccosukee Resorts Tundra, his sixth series victory of the season. The win enabled Toyota to clinch the 2009 NCWTS manufacturer’s title, its fourth-straight in the series since 2006.
Bodine (24 laps led), the two-time defending race winner at Talladega, finished third in the Germain Racing No. 30 Copart Tundra, his fourth top-five result in four starts at the track. HT Motorsports teammates Terry Cook (fourth) and David Starr (fifth) also posted top-five finishes on Saturday, marking the first time Toyota swept the top-five positions since Gateway in 2006.
Tundra drivers Stacy Compton (seventh), Timothy Peters (11th), Mike Skinner (19th), Max Papis (22nd), Brian Scott (23rd), Tayler Malsam (27th) and T.J. Bell (29th) were also in the field.
Toyota has won 13 of 22 races this season and has 64 NCWTS victories since 2004.
Skinner remains third in the unofficial NCWTS point standings following Talladega, now trailing leader Ron Hornaday Jr. by 327 points. Tundra drivers Bodine (fourth), Scott (fifth), Peters (seventh) and Starr (ninth) are also in the top-10 in points with three races remaining.
The NCWTS returns to action at Texas Motor Speedway, Nov. 6.
