NASCAR Camping World Truck Series

• Tundra drivers Kyle Busch (second), Brian Ickler (third) and Mike Skinner (fifth) earned top-five finishes in today's NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) race at Michigan International Speedway.


• Three additional Tundra drivers also earned top-10 finishes - Tayler Malsam (sixth), Timothy Peters (eighth) and Terry Cook (10th).


• Tundra drivers Busch (62 laps) and Todd Bodine (six laps) led a total of 68 of the 100-laps in today's race.


• Toyota drivers David Starr (11th), Bodine (13th), T.J. Bell, Jr. (18th), Stacy Compton (19th) and Brian Scott (34th) were also in the field.


• Six Tundra drivers are currently in the top-10 in the unofficial NCWTS point standings - Skinner (third), Bodine (fourth), Busch (fifth), Starr (sixth), Cook (seventh) and Malsam (eighth).

What happened when you lost the lead to Colin Braun?

"I screwed up - the guy (Norm Benning) didn't hold his line. I tried to go low on him and just messed up. I hate it for the team - they deserve to win this race. I think we could have held them off if we were out front. The Miccosukee Tundra was the best its ever been here. Another second place, but very frustrating. We'll go on to Kentucky now and finish second to Joey Logano there."

Were you frustrated about losing the lead?

"It was just a mistake by the driver. I saw a lapped truck running a lane up off the bottom and I had been liking to run on the bottom. I went into the corner underneath him and he kept coming down and coming across. Unfortunately, I lost all the momentum and all the speed that I had. Colin (Braun) just drove right by on the top. I lost the race for us - my fault. The team deserved it - they had a great Tundra out there. The guys did an awesome job preparing this thing. It was the fastest I have ever been here and the most laps I've ever led here in a truck. It was fun while it lasted."

Did you have any chance to catch Colin Braun after he passed you?

"Clean air was it. I knew that if I could have held him off then I would have been the same way. It seemed like after about 30 laps - 25, 28, 30 laps on tires, the other guys behind us would just continually falling back and that's all I did. I drove my tires off trying to keep up with him and pass him back, but didn't have anything."

What is your opinion of Colin Braun?

"He's done well - he's done well in the Nationwide Series too. Last year, he ran at ORP (O'Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis), qualified second, ran second to me much of the race. I don't know if he ended up second or third or something like that. He's been impressive. He's had some tough ways though - it was my fault at Charlotte he crashed out and then two weeks ago he had a tire problem at Dover - same as us. He's shown some speed, he's shown some potential. It hasn't been week in and week out, but it seems to be getting better more with experience."

BRIAN ICKLER, No. 15 Samsung Instinct Toyota Tundra, Billy Ballew Motorsports

What do you learn in today's race?

"We learned a ton. We were just too free there at the end. We tried to tighten up all day long. Learned a lot -- a lot about air -- you're going fast at this place. Just happy to finally have a good run for Samsung Instinct and everybody at Toyota."

Could you challenge the leaders late in the race?

"Once we got out of the draft there and we finally got by (Matt) Crafton it just takes so long to suck back up to Kyle (Busch) and Colin (Braun). Maybe if we had a restart I think we'd have been pretty good. But, without a restart it was pretty spread out."

How excited are you with your finish today?

"We had a pretty good truck all weekend - great qualifying effort by the whole team. We started off our run a little free and just tried to learn everything with all the air - aero on these trucks around this two-mile race track. We got shuffled to the back a little there and had some help from Kyle (Busch) to get back to the front. Just a great finish and a great momentum booster for next week."

Can you explain your relationship with Kyle Busch?

"I ran the NASCAR Camping World West Series - had the opportunity to move back east, which I did. I moved to Mooresville (N.C.) with my own team. I rented a shop down the street from Kyle (Busch) and he just kind of followed my racing career along and gave me the opportunity to go run the Snowball Derby in one of his Late Models. I have run a Late Model race for him twice and have just become good friends. He is the one responsible for putting me in the 51 truck when he's not in it."

What do the truck races teach you for moving into the next level of NASCAR?

"The two biggest things are the race tracks we run at. Everything else, you don't get the experience on big two-mile and mile-and-a-half speedways. The second I would say is radial tires. All the other series seem to run bias-ply tires. Getting on the radial going this fast with all the air is what makes you ready for the next step."

How does it feel to finish third in only your fifth NCWTS race?

"We've run good - we ran good last week at Texas and had a sway bar bolt break. Just small things keep biting us since we started this thing and we're starting to make it click with both trucks. It's big for not only myself, but the whole team. It picks up all their spirits racing every week, working as hard as they do."

How was your truck in the race?

"We had an awesome Tundra today. They wrecked in front of us there and we couldn't miss it. Tore our old piece up and then we struggled. I had a heck of a lot of fun with Ron Hornaday, Jr. at the end. My teammate, Tayler Malsam, man that kid has really come a long ways. He's doing a heck of a job."

How much fun did you have racing against Ron Hornaday, Jr?

"You ought to see us race golf carts out in the motor home lot sometime. We had a great, great day. I want to thank Brooklyn Products for coming along, helping us out, Exide of course and Toyota. We thought we were going to win the race today and came up short."

How was your race today?

"Our Zachary Toyota Tundra was awesome today. Everybody at HT Motorsports is working hard. We didn't qualify very well but we worked our way up to sixth-place and had a caution and made an adjustment. When they dropped the green, unfortunately somebody got into the left rear. From that point on, we were just playing defense the rest of the day. A good day for us. I wanted a top-10 -- stuck in there and got 11th."

What happened that took you out of the race?

"I think Ron (Hornaday, Jr.) came in and got tires - I was behind him and they checked up in front of him. He went to the outside and I went to the outside - he was trying to get slowed up and I got in the back of him. I hate it - we had a lot of SafeAuto folks here and we had a pretty good truck -- that's racing."
