TODD TAKES SERIES RECORD IN TEXAS - Bodine Scores Fifth Texas Truck Victory FORT WORTH, Texas (June 5, 2009) -- Todd Bodine, driver of the Germain Racing No. 30 Copart.com Tundra, recorded his fifth NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) win at Texas Motor Speedway in Friday night's 167-lap race to make NASCAR history at the 1.5-mile oval. He is the first driver to win five series races at the same track, having previously won at Texas in the fall events in 2004 and 2005, as well as the spring races in 2006 and 2007.
This was Bodine's second victory in 2009, having also won the season-opener at Daytona, and 17th triumph in 123 NCWTS races. He led the field twice -- for the 52 circuits around the Texas oval -- on his way to victory lane.
"A good friend of mine told me last week that he was rooting for me to finish second, but not win," said Bodine, after the race. "Sorry Brendan (Gaughan), I had to beat you." Before Friday night's victory, Gaughan and Bodine each had four Truck Series wins at the Texas track.
"This is incredible," added Bodine. "Right into that last run, we were just too loose the whole race and Mike Hillman, Jr. (crew chief) made some great calls at the end and fixed it up to make it run. This is an awesome night."
When the second and final caution came out for debris on lap 122, teams made pit stops under yellow. With NASCAR's rule, they can only take tires or fuel during each stop under yellow and the Germain Racing team decided to only stop for tires after having pitted under green at lap 104 for fuel. The gamble catapulted Bodine to the front of the field when the rest of the field pitted a second time for fuel.
"If (Mike Hillman) Junior (crew chief) wasn't concerned, I wasn't concerned," said Bodine. "They have it handled to what we had for fuel mileage. This Toyota Tundra was awesome and I can't believe it's finally back here in victory lane."
Matt Crafton, Colin Braun, Johnny Benson and Rick Crawford round out the top-five finishers at Texas. David Starr (seventh), Tayler Malsam (ninth) and Mike Skinner (10th) gave Toyota five Tundra top-10 finishes in Friday night's event. Other Tundra drivers in the field were Timothy Peters (12th), TJ Bell (14th), Brian Scott (15th), Aric Almirola (16th), Terry Cook (20th), Stacy Compton (21st) and Brian Ickler (22nd).
It was the sixth win this year for a Tundra driver in the first eight NCWTS races of the season. In addition, it marks the 57th win for a Tundra driver since Toyota joined the series at the start of the 2004 season.
In the unofficial NCWTS point standings following the Texas race, Skinner now sits third, just 39 points behind first-place Matt Crafton. Following Skinner in the standings are Bodine (fourth), Scott (fifth), Starr (sixth), Benson (seventh) and Cook (ninth).
The NCWTS returns to action at Michigan International Speedway, June 13.
