Coons Earns Pair of Seconds To Lead Toyota At Sun Prairie
TORRANCE, Calif. (Aug. 30, 2010) – Jerry Coons, Jr., earned a pair of second-place finishes in this weekend’s USAC National Midget Series double-header at the Angell Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis., and climbed from sixth in the series point standings up to fourth in the process.
Coons actually led 41 of the 60 combined laps over Friday and Saturday night, but was unable to hold off Bryan Clauson in either event. Coons led the first 21 laps on Saturday and followed by leading the first 20 of 30 on Sunday.
Coons wasn’t the only Toyota-powered driver to have a good weekend as Dave Darland and Tracy Hines each had strong runs. Darland placed third on Saturday night and sixth on Sunday. In addition, he was the fastest qualifier in Sunday’s tilt. Hines earned a fifth-place finish on Sunday after a seventh on Saturday night. He is currently third in the championship race, while Darland is sixth.
